Welcome From the Middle School Head

Welcome to the SFFS Middle School!

In the Middle School, our classrooms buzz with the sights and sounds of vigorous and engaged intellectual discovery. The curriculum offers students increasing opportunities for choice, agency, and challenge, and it teaches age-appropriate strategies to maintain peaceful and balanced ways of being. We hope to build within our students the confidence and tenacity to enthusiastically engage with complex material across the disciplines and to acquire the self-knowledge to seek guidance and support when needed. We focus on the process of learning: we celebrate our “a-ha!” moments, and we learn from our mistakes.

Inquiry is at the heart of our academic program, and Middle School students learn skills to investigate complex topics in ways that foster collaboration, creativity, open-mindedness, and care. Our student-centered and responsive approach ensures that as we tend to our community as a whole and each individual student receives what they need to thrive.

As our students discover and navigate new changes within themselves, they are supported by talented educators who hold expertise in the unique developmental stages of early adolescence.  Guided by Quaker values, our Middle-School students are held to higher expectations, and they are encouraged to reflect upon themselves as students, as community members, and as leaders. Part of their growth as leaders is developing the courage and poise to face injustice, preparing our students to respond to future challenges with confidence and bold ambition.

I hope you will visit our campus if you haven’t already in order to witness first-hand the community, connection, and engagement that thrives at SFFS in general, and in the Middle School in particular. We can’t wait to meet you.

Sincerely,
Lizzie Rogal
