The events that unfolded yesterday in our nation’s capital are leaving many experiencing a wide range of feelings, from anger to sadness, grief to despair. How might we use our Quaker values to support and guide us and others during these challenging times? Community and connection can be nourishing and supportive, and during moments like these we have used Meeting for Worship to create time and space for us to reflect, connect, and support each other (we also hosted a special Meeting for Worship this past spring, after the killing of George Floyd). Meeting for Worship can also be a time to “hold others in the light.” This is a Quaker expression which is used when others are facing distress or difficulties, we lift them up to goodness and love, and wish upon them health, healing, and peace. Sometimes a candle is lit as a symbol of this action. We hope you can join us.
