applying for adjustable tuition
San Francisco Friends School adjusts a student's tuition to match their family's economic situation. Families apply for an adjusted tuition using Clarity, a comprehensive online financial aid application that collects financial information and estimates the amount that your family can contribute towards tuition. Once you complete your application, Clarity will send it to any school(s) you indicate. When we receive your application, our Adjustable Tuition Committee will review it and use it to formulate your adjusted tuition amount to determine if you qualify for assistance.
Tuition adjustments are sent to new families with their admissions decision letter in March. Currently enrolled families will receive their tuition information with their re-enrollment contracts in February.
Steps to Complete the Application
To get started, please go to the Clarity Application and create an account. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. The Clarity Application is also mobile-friendly so you can complete it from anywhere. You are also able to save your progress and return at any time. At the end of the application, there is a $60 fee to submit, and you can share your application with additional schools that accept the Clarity Application for no additional charge. Simply use the dropdown menu in the application to select those schools.
Once you have completed and submitted your application, in mid-January you will be prompted to return to your dashboard as SFFS requires you to upload additional tax documentation including your 2023 W2s and/or 1099s, and your end of January 2024 pay stubs.
Deadlines for completing the Clarity adjusted tuition application:
Currently enrolled families - January 6, 2025
Applicant families - February 1, 2025
For most families, Clarity will pull all required tax documentation automatically from the IRS after you sign the 4506-T form in the application. In certain circumstances, you will be prompted to upload additional documentation. Any additional requirements may be found in the "Documents" tab in your Clarity portal.
- Families with business interests (S-Corp, C-Corp, or Partnerships), will be prompted to upload documentation pertaining to their business(es). Please include all required documentation.
Your family's adjusted tuition award is contingent on the submission and verification of all the materials above. The Adjustable Tuition committee will contact you if more information is required.
If you need support during the process of completing your application, there is in-app support available through the “Help” button in the bottom left of the screen, as well as email and phone support at support@clarityapp.com or 206-210-3752, in both English and Spanish. The application itself is also fully translated into Spanish using the drop-down menu in the lower left corner.
