Community Open to All
"Be patterns, be examples in all countries, places, islands, nations, wherever you come; that your carriage and life may preach among all sorts of people, and to them. Then you will come to walk cheerfully over the world answering that of God in everyone."
~George Fox (1624 - 1691), Quaker founder
Diversity Mission Statement
The San Francisco Friends School holds the Quaker belief that an Inner Light is present in all individuals. This ideal guides our thoughts and actions in creating a community of effective and engaged citizens. Community members represent a diversity that encompasses differences in the human experience, including: gender, ethnicity, race, family make up, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and learning styles, among others. To that end, we affirm that:
* Deepening our knowledge of and appreciation for each others' differences helps nurture moral and intellectual growth, fosters a sense of belonging, and creates a stronger community;
* Building an awareness that we each have distinct power and privilege inspires us to embrace our responsibility and work towards positive outcomes;
* Cultivating a diverse learning environment is critical for our children to effectively participate in a dynamic and increasingly interconnected world;
We recognize that engaging in this work is an evolving process that must be sustained through constant dialog and effort. All members of the San Francisco Friends School commit to making this vision a reality in our campaign towards creating an equitable and just community at our school and beyond.
