Community Engagement

“A different world cannot be built by indifferent people.” – Horace Mann

8th graders studying immigration mural at SF Friends Meeting At San Francisco Friends School, an integral part of our curriculum is engaging our local community. All around us, community organizations foster civic participation, support people in need, fight for social justice, and strive to create a better world. We believe it is critical that our students be part of these efforts.

When our students engage in these organizations, their worlds expand. By tutoring low-income preschoolers, collaborating with developmentally-disabled artists, or interviewing refugee children, our students grow in ways far beyond what the classroom can provide. They see new realities, they hear new perspectives, they develop richer sensibilities.
