Each year, the Board of Trustees for San Francisco Friends School works with the Head of School and the Business Office to determine the school’s tuition. The Board makes this decision with three goals in mind: to further the school’s mission in all ways possible; to ensure the long-term financial strength and success of the school; and to accommodate the needs and concerns of our families (current and future).
In addition, the Board is committed to creating a budget that allows Friends to hire and retain stellar faculty and staff, offer Adjustable Tuition to as many families as possible, provide extraordinary programs to our students, and maintain our unique historical facilities.
With all these factors in mind, the Board has set tuition for the 2017-18 academic year at $30,800 for Lower School and $31,800 for Middle School. At this level, the budget can provide Adjustable Tuition to more than one-quarter of our families (using 18.5% of our budget).
Our Adjustable Tuition program is central to our mission of providing access to a Friends School education to as wide an array of families as we can. Through this program, San Francisco Friends School adjusts tuition for families based on their specific financial circumstances. While not all families that request an adjustment can receive it, we are able to make Friends more affordable to a majority of the families who submit their information to the program.
