Banfield, Jay
Board of Trustees
Jay Banfield was raised in Somerville, Massachusetts. He earned a BA from Stanford University and began a career marked by executive experience in the private, public and nonprofit sectors. Jay worked at Oracle Corporation for five years before returning to the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned a Master in Public Policy degree. Jay has worked on local, state and national political campaigns and has served in both the legislative and executive branches of government. He was appointed the Assistant Treasurer for the City and County of San Francisco where he spearheaded a national award-winning e-government initiative. He was later appointed Assistant General Manager of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. For several years Jay served as an adjunct faculty member at the Edward S. Ageno School of Business at Golden Gate University. In the fall of 2005, Jay moved to the non-profit sector when he became the Executive Director of the San Francisco Parks Trust. Now serving on its board, he moved on to launch Year Up San Francisco Bay Area, a nationally recognized program that prepares urban young adults for careers in technology. Trained as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), Jay has been on the board of SFCASA for six years, serving one term as its co-chair. He and his wife, Kate, have three children. Grace is in San Francisco Friends School Class of 2012, Aidan is in the Class of 2014, and Dray is in the Class of 2016.
